Welcome To ADAPT

A coalition of people who care about reducing underage drinking and drug abuse in Essex County.  Our members include youth, parents, educators, police, substance abuse professionals, faith-based and government representatives, and other concerned citizens.

“One of the first things that we will be focusing on is decreasing the access that youth have to alcohol.”

Why ADAPT? Because throughout Essex County…

  • Alcohol and other drugs are readily available to underage youth.
  • More than 40% of teenagers have used alcohol and many have engaged in binge drinking.
  • This abuse is a serious health and safety risk – for our youth and for the entire community.

Our Mission: To target and reduce underage drinking and drug abuse throughout Essex County.

Our Goals Include:

  • Improved health and safety for everyone in the County
  • Reduced alcohol/drug-related traffic accidents and hospital admissions
  • Reduced juvenile arrest rates; and,
  • Reduced property damage

Our Approach is to focus on environmental change by:

  • Improving community education and awareness
  • Advocating for local ordinance changes
  • Coordinating with local schools and law enforcement
  • Leveraging social media and other technologies; and,
  • Empowering youth as Prevention Leaders
