LTC IntroA coalition of people who care about reducing underage drinking and drug abuse in Essex County.  Our members include youth, parents, educators, police, substance abuse professionals, faith-based and government representatives, and other concerned citizens.

Why ADAPT? Because throughout Essex County…

  • 90% of teens interviewed stated that alcohol is easily accessible in their area
  • More teens are reporting getting access to prescription medication that is not prescribed to them through unlocked medicine cabinets
  • Middle school and high school students are using e-cigarettes and vape pens

Prescription drug abuse is becoming a rising issue in the United States. Every 19 minutes someone dies from an accidental prescription drug overdose. Prescription drugs can be prescribed by a doctor or over-the-counter. Data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) show that nearly one-third of people aged 12 and over whom used drugs for the first time in 2009 began by using a prescription medication for non-medical reasons.
