Keep Your Child Safe and Active This Summer!
ADAPT wants to help you keep your child active and safe during the summer months. We’ve heard from our communities in Essex County and know how difficult it may be to find great local resources for your children. Below, you will find a list of different summer opportunities, including free, reduced price, or regular price opportunities, to keep your child active. We will update this area as we get more information from our local partners.
Ladybug Montessori Learning Center offers day camp for children aged 2 ½ to 6.
Camp Belleville summer programs for grades K-6.
New Jersey School of Dramatic Arts, offers a day camp for children in grades 3 to 12.
Pioneer Trails Day Camp, held on the campus of Caldwell College for kids grade K through 8, offers a wide variety of programs including swimming, drama, sports, games and crafts.
Camp Caldwell offers pool time, arts and crafts, games and sports for children aged 5 to 12
Teen Adventure Camp: Campers entering grades 7th to 10th
The borough of Essex Fells hosts a summer camp for children in preschool through 8th grade.
Gesher Summer Camp is for kids in pre-K to 10th grade and offers music, sports, Israeli culture, arts, crafts, music and sports.
West Essex YMCA hosts several of its camps in Livingston.
Performers Theatre Workshop Broadway Showcase and Training Program for kids aged 10 to 18 features classes in voice, acting
Children’s Summer Program at The Adult School for kids in grades 1 through 12 offers more than 100 classes in academic enrichment, arts and sports.
The Girl Scouts have a day camp featuring hiking and nature study at the South Mountain Reservation.
South Mountain YMCA hosts a day camp for tots to teens with camps that focus on drama, environmental awareness, sports, global arts and golf.
It’s Sew Crafty hosts a sewing and crafting camp for children aged 11 to 13.
Express Yourself Studios offers a summer art workshop for children aged 5 to 12 to learn about famous artists and make their own art.
Geralyn’s Art Studio has camp for children aged 4 to 17 in mediums from pencils and pastels to gardening and puppetry.
Summer Employment Opportunity
You can serve the community while gaining valuable experience as a Millburn Pool Lifeguard.
Must be 15 or older and complete a Lifeguard Certification Course.
Guards usually work 3-5 days per week (preferences to those who can work 4-5 days/week).
Pay is $8.50 to $9.50 per hr. depending on experience & .50 cents more an hour if certified as a Water Safety Instructor. Guard uniform and shirts provided.
Interviews will be held on Sunday March 2, at 1-3 PM at the Gero Park Recreation Center. If you sign up for a certification course, bring that information to the interview.
How to become certified as a Lifeguard: (must turn 15 by completion of course)
The Connection in Summit (908 273-4242 or www.theconnectiononline.org/ ) offers a 28-32 hr. course for $280. Their next course is Sat. April 5 (10am – 4pm); Sun. April 6 (10am – 6:30pm); Sat. April 12 (10am – 4pm); Sun. April 13 (10am – 6:30pm).
The Connection’s May course is offered on May 3 &4 and May 10 & 11, same hours as April course.
Drew University in Madison (973 445-1000 or www.njlifeguard.com ) offers a 22.5 hr. course for $340.
Drew’s course is held on Mon. and Wed. evenings from 5pm to 9:30pm. Their next course dates are 2/24, 2/26, 3/3, 3/5 & 3/10. Another course is held 3/31, 4/2, 4/7, 4/9 & 4/14.

The Community School offers a day camp for older children
New Horizons Camp has a day camp for children of various ages. Main Facility located at the Pope John School, West Orange, NJ.
The West Orange Community House Boys and Girls Club hosts a summer camp
Essex County Turtle Back Zoo offers zoo camp for pre-kindergarten to 4th grade.
